Garlic & Sapphires In The Mud
The fly sat upon the axel-tree of the chariot-wheel and said, 'What a dust do I raise!'
World Cup Crazy

One game changes everything.  At least that is what ABC/ESPN has been telling me for the last month.  And while I am not sick of the commercial yet (and those of you who are keep those pieholes shut), I must question whether or not I can I believe them.  You see, ABC has also been saying that they would be broadcasting every game on a least one of their channels.  They forgot to say everywhere but San Antonio.

Imagine my surprise when I turned on my television expecting to see the Mexico-Iran match, only to find a "Showcase Of Homes."  Huh?  OK, maybe they are allowed not to show the pre-game (something which absolutely drives me crazy) like the CBS affiliate is during the NCAA men's basketball tournament.  I wait.  The real estate sales pitch is followed, quite appropriately, by the TV broadcast of the First Baptist Church.  Huh?  I immediately check the High Def channel to make sure ABC hasn't lost it's collective mind, only to find they had.  Church in high def?  Huh?  About the only thing more pointless than a Baptist church service on television, let alone in HD, is an episode of "Murder She Wrote" where no one dies; at least the actual service can be considered a social event, which is almost never pointless.

I live in San Antonio, Texas.  I will repeat that: I live in San Antonio, Texas.  Think about it.  I live in one of the largest Hispanic communities in the United States, and ABC decides not to show a World Cup game involving Mexico?  I could almost understand if it was the US team, but Mexico?  C'mon.

Needless to say I am very disappointed with Mickey Mouse, and secretly wonder whether or not I could sue for my share of the Magic Kingdom for false advertising.  In the mean time I am quickly learning Spanish, so that I can watch the next game they decide not to show--Sunday's match featuring Brazil--on Telemundo, and understand more than "Spanish, Spanish, Spanish: Spanish, Spanish, Spanish:  GGGOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!
