Last Five Movies I have Seen
Delightful. Poignant. A must
see for anyone who has had
even the slightest contact with
Evangelical youth groups. 3 1/2
stars.

Kieslowski's masterwork. I have been
wanting to watch this for ten years and
just got around to it. It was worth the
wait. Very few things in life are as
beautiful as they are brilliant; these films
left me wanting more and also left me
full at the same time, like a good meal.
I don't think I have ever seen a film
wherein the questions "Who are these
people? What are their motivations?"
were quite literally suspenseful for me
like a good thriller. It's almost as if the
characters and their passions are the
plot, not the linear play we see unfold
on the screen. The direction and
cinematography are out of this world;
all of the acting is lights out; and I don't
think I ever seen three more distinct,
yet beautiful actresses (Juliette
Binoche, Julie Delpy, Irene Jacob)
ever put together in a film in this way.
The "Mary Poppins" of
trilogies--practically perfect in every
way. Subtitled. 4 stars.

Based on the diaries of Che Guevara
he kept on his trip across South
America as a young man. A great tale
of friendship made stronger by a road
trip. I might have liked it even more if I
had enetered the film with some
knowledge of Che. (I admit this film
contains all I know about him).
Subtitled. 3 stars.
Very cute. Makes me glad there are
no such thing as super powers. I've
actually dated girls like G-Girl (Uma
Thurman), and some of you know
exactly who I am talking about. Kind
of like a modern James Garner/Doris
Day movie, but deserving of its PG-13
rating. Luke Wilson, as usual, is at his
best dealing with awkward moments.
3 stars
Highly entertaining martial arts action,
and at time utterly hilarious. One of the
few foreign language films I would prefer
to watch dubbed. If you like matial arts
films, you will love this. Subtitled. 3 stars.
